Anywhere but there Tommy!
I'm sure many of you stayed up to watch the conclusion of The Honda Classic on Sunday night and what a finish it was! Tommy looked destined to win with a great start, but then started to struggle with the hooks in the back nine and it looked like it was all over until he pulled a fantastic birdie out of the bag on 17 and then hit his best tee shot of the day off the 18th to put himself in with a massive chance. He needed birdie to make the playoff and he'd set up a great chance at the reachable par 5.
The last place I expected him to hit it was the water, but that's where it went and with it any chance of a maiden win on American soil!
Trying to fade it when you've been struggling with a hook all day is a very risky business! You know the clubface needs to be open in relation to swing path to get the fade but the path has been going to the right all day creating a hook so, for me, that was a very high risk shot to take on under the circumstances, especially when bunkers left of the green are a reasonably easy up and down.
I look forward to hearing the post mortem from my Dad! He's flown out this morning for Bay Hill this week and Sawgrass the week after. Surely it's only a matter of time before Tommy breaks his duck, and The Players Championship would be a nice time to do it!
Did I mention Sawgrass - The Players Championship?
Sweep Time!
Make sure you draw your players before it starts. It's £3 per player with all the usual prizes up for grabs!

Another happy customer
Another very satisfied customer picked up his new PING 410 driver today! John Parry made a gain of 17 yards carry after a fitting session with Iain.
Iain reduced the loft on his driver to 9.5 degrees to take spin off the ball and used a heavier shaft to offer more control and stability in the swing to help with dispersion.
The result - longer, straighter shots off the tee and a very happy golfer!
If you want to see results like John's, come and see us in the Pro Shop or contact us here to request your fitting! |

Know someone interested in taking up Golf?
This year we will be running both Gents and Ladies Academies, so tell your friends about it and encourage them to take up the game you all love so much. It's aimed at absolute beginners and it's the perfect starting point.
We give quality instruction on the basic fundamentals of the game in a relaxed atmosphere with the emphasis on fun as much as learning.
The 8-week courses will run as follows:
Ladies - The course will run from Saturday 25th April and will take place from 3pm - 5pm
Gents - The course will run from Monday 27th April and will take place from 6pm - 8pm
The cost for the 8 sessions will be £80 per person, and the groups are limited to 10 people, so please hurry as places tend to fill up fast!
Contact us here to find out more or book your place! |
Give your clubs a service
Worn grips = Bad swings! It's a proven fact!
When your grips are worn you tend to grip the club tighter than needed and stifle the ability for the wrists to hinge and unhinge in a way that increases club head speed, hence, slowing the club down!
"Are you telling me that if I change my grips I'll hit it further Dave"?
Yes I am! At least you're giving yourself a much better chance of improving your distance by holding the club lighter! Make use of our current grip promotion and get a club of choice re-gripped for free!
Come down to the pro shop and we'll have it changed in 5 minutes!

All hands on deck
Another all-important working party took place on Tuesday to try to get the drainage work finished on the 16th fairway. Great to see the members out in force and doing their bit for the cause.
The work done on the 10th fairway looks to have really made a difference, it's taken the deluge that February threw at us really well so there's good reason to think the 16th will be just as successful.
The working parties go out most Tuesday's so please come to the club and lend a hand if you can, the storms have left plenty of work to be done before the winter has passed.

‘Drive for show, putt for dough’. No doubt you have heard this one a few times before but considering putting equates to between 30 to 50% of our shots on the course, it also has a large element of truth in it. |
| Odyssey Stroke Lab Triple Track putters |
|
There's some clever technology out there to help you putt better. For example, Odyssey has taken the Triple Track Alignment from the ERC Soft golf ball and combined it with their Stroke Lab shaft to create this stunning range of putters. |
If you're someone who struggles to line up correctly on the greens, come and try Odyssey's Triple Track putters at Woolton Golf Club. Better putting might just be around the corner. |
