A rare miss
Well well, last week something happened that we're really not used to at all! I know what you're thinking... "the rain stopped!" Well, no actually, something even more rare even than that!
A missed cut from Tommy Fleetwood, and he didn't just miss it, he missed it in style, finishing very nearly last, but at least he had a weekend off!
I doubt he spent it at Disneyland, it'll have been straight to Sawgrass with my Dad to put things right for this week and The Player's Championship, on a golf course that my Dad rates as the best he's ever seen... and he's seen a few!
The course suits Tommy well, as he proved last year when he went very close. It's been raining and the course is quite soft so it will play long which suits him as well. I expect him to be bang there come Sunday! I'll be watching with interest, it's one of the best tournaments of the year! There's still a handful of players left in the sweep if you're quick!

Captain's drive-in
It was great to see such a large turnout for the Captain's Drive-In last Sunday. Iain and I would like to wish all incoming Captains the very best for the season. Congratulations to Phil Jevons, Phil Taylor, Shaun Densmore, and Chris Alman who scored an unbeatable 50.375 in The Captain's Drive-In Texas Scramble. I'm guessing The K Brothers, Paul Mellor, and Mike Harris probably thought they'd done enough with their score of 53.125 but not on this day!
Mike Harris can take some consolation from his nearest the pin at the 4th hole. Andy Moss and Peter Moore won the nearest the pins at the 7th and 11th holes.
Pro's Winter Series Speaking of exceptional scores, the 20th round of the Pro's Winter Series was won by Dave Finnetty with a fantastic score of 27 points over 10 holes. That was enough for a 4 shot win for Dave and he chalks up his first win of the campaign in the process.
Andy Hayes, Graeme Gardiner and Steve McAllister all shared 2nd place with 23 points. Andy Hayes made a small gain on Lee Nichol at the top of the order of merit but it's hard to see Lee being caught now with so little time left.

Is your game ready for 2020?
The 2020 season is not far away and we're coming out of the wettest winter on record. The opportunities to keep your game in trim have been fewer this winter, with the weather having it's say and affecting the winter competition schedule dramatically.
Take advantage of my season tune-up offer of 4 lessons for £75 to be taken between now and the end of May. We start on a long game check-up with two lessons indoors to work on address position and basic swing. We will then concentrate on chipping and bunker play in lesson three and then putting for the final lesson in May.
This should ensure you're working on the correct movements for your own swing that will benefit you individually, and focus your mind ready the for the season ahead.
Don't play the guessing game and make yourself worse or try to implement generic information you see on YouTube or in magazines! It doesn't help! You can book directly through my website or the Woolton GC website or contact the pro shop on 0151 486 1298.

Don't just take our word for it... |
What do we want? Straighter shots. When do we want it? Now! Starting the ball on the right line is key and, by watching the video below, you'll learn one of the simplest ways to do exactly that. |
‘One of the important things about good golf is consistency and repetition’ We all know that’s easier said than done so when there's a way of creating consistency, it makes sense to take advantage. That is the point of Golf Pride’s ALIGN grips, which feature a raised ridge on the back (the red strip) to ensure repetitive hand placement, helping to keep the face square throughout the swing. Even better still, you can get a FREE ALIGN grip by coming to see us for a grip fitting! Click the link for more information.
