Boris has lost his last Pro V1 in the bushes and Dominic Cummings has filled his petrol tank to the brim!! It can only mean one thing! Another golf free lockdown!

Unfortunately, we'll be closing the course, shop, coaching studio and clubhouse until at least the 2nd of December! Very frustrating indeed!

The last Major of the year

One good bit of news I can bring you is that we have The Masters to look forward to next week. It won't quite be The Masters as we know it, with Augusta National wearing it's Autumn coat and none of the customary "Patrons" lining the fairways but I must say, I really won't miss the plantpot shouting "Mash Potato" every 20 minutes!

I have no doubt that even a worldwide pandemic cannot affect the excitement of the back nine on Masters Sunday. There may be no crowds but the holes haven't changed, the water hazards are still there, the pressure of The Masters is still there, the lightning-fast, sloping greens still give the flat stick the most stern examination in golf and the cream will always rise to the top! I can't wait for Thursday 12th of November when it all gets underway.

We all know who I'll be shouting for and I won't be shouting "Mash Potato"! It's all about Tommy Fleetwood for obvious reasons! It's my Dad's birthday on November 15th (Masters Sunday) and I really hope the stars align and Tommy can give him a present much better than the standard bottle of Rioja Reserva I always get him!

What to expect during the lockdown

I will be communicating with members throughout lockdown once again. My mobile number is above, if you're bored if you want to chat about golf, golf swing, the golf club or anything else for that matter I will welcome your call.

We are a club, we're all in this together and as your Club Professional, I'm here to help in any way I can. I will be coming up with some content to try to keep you all entertained through the lockdown period and look forward to seeing you all back on the golf course soon.

Augusta looms

Masters week is an exciting time for any avid golfer. It's when we get to watch our favourite golfers battle it out on one of the most iconic courses in the world. Flowers in full bloom, an array of beautiful colours, and a course in pristine condition year-after-year. Augusta National is a special place, so we thought we'd run through some of the standout Masters memories ahead of next week's showdown.

Sunday Shifts

In 1996, Greg Norman turned a six-stroke Sunday lead into a five-stroke loss to Nick Faldo. In 1978, Gary Player started the final round eight strokes behind before shooting the lowest-ever final round (64) at Augusta to claim the Green Jacket!

Fighting Spirit

Tiger’s incredible 2019 comeback win springs to mind, but Ben Hogan recovered from a terrible car crash in 1949 to win The Masters by five strokes in 1953. Ben Crenshaw’s 1995 victory came in the same week as the funeral of long-time instructor Harvey Penick. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
